Audrey Mercer has been living on the streets for the two years after she aged out of the care system. Audrey's mother was a drug addict who died not long after Audrey was born. Audrey never knew who her father was. Audrey grew up in the care system but was never adopted. The few times Audrey was put into foster care, she caused so much trouble that she was returned to the childrens' home.

When Audrey turned eighteen, she was given a sum of money and moved to a shelter for adults. Audrey hated the shelter as it was home to drug addicts and men who would make inappropriate advances on Audrey.

Audrey decided to take her chances on the streets and in squats. Audrey survived by shoplifting, mugging and using sex to gain things she wanted.

Audrey tried to insist on condoms, but sometimes just took a chance and had unprotected sex.
