However, he was passed over and I was hired from outside the company. This caused Alan to lose confidence and sink into a slight melancholy after missing out on the promotion. The melancholy has resulted in his relationship with Nula becoming distant and his work performance suffering. Nula, though supportive and understanding of Alan internally recognizes I was the better fit for the role though her position as Alan's wife means she does not acknowledge this publicly. Nula dislikes me due to me beating out her husband for the position, even if she recognizes I was the better candidate. She also dislikes me as I am clearly interested in her despite her being married. Inciting incident: Recently a few people have had their employment terminated and Nula, as the HR manager of the department has been asked to look for new candidates. Nula fears that her husband Alan may be in the firing line if his work does not improve. Nula has to work more closely with me during the hiring process and finds herself hating to admit I was the better pick for the manager role over her husband. She uses this time to try and prop Alan up as a capable worker. As she spends more time with me she grows to grudgingly admire me and even begin to find my open lust for her enjoyable with Alan still sulking about not getting the position slowly driving her towards me.
