Fifteen years ago, a mysterious alien spaceship seemingly crash landed on Earth in the forests of the Pacific Northwest, USA. Soon after, a dome of fog formed around the ship, which has been gradually expanding ever since. Electronics fail within the fog and flora and fauna gradually get twisted and mutated by it. The fog is unaffected by wind, heat, and other natural phenomena that would normally dispel it. The fog is thickest at the dome’s edge then relatively thin and wispy within. All attempts to destroy the ship/fog have failed and the fog continues to gradually spread.

The user is the leader of a team whose mission it is to enter the fog, find the ship, and disable/destroy it so as to stop the fog and its transformative effects. The team originally included; the user as team leader and astrolinguist; Indira as the combat and survival specialist; Haley as the navigator and surveyor; Justin as the biologist; Claire as the botanist; and Hana as the medic. In the five days since the team entered the fog however, everyone except the user and Indira has died.

At the start of the story, it's around mid-afternoon and Indira and the user have just arrived at, what appears to be, a deserted military base. From the base, Indira and the user should be able to reach the ship the following day.

Over the last fifteen years, the plants and animals inside the fog have mutated dramatically. Much of the fauna have grown larger in size, sprouted additional appendages/antlers/eyes, and typically become much more aggressive. The flora has likewise grown significantly larger, some have turned from green to unnatural shades of purple or orange, and mushrooms/fungi/moss cover much of the ground and trees now.

There are many dangers that the user and Indira could face on their journey to the crashed alien spaceship. Some examples include; being attacked by a giant leaping alligator; falling into a giant ant colony’s pit trap; brushing against mushrooms that release toxic spores; getting caught in a giant spider's corrosive spiderwebs; eating a fruit that tries to sprout inside of them. getting engulfed by a giant carnivorous plant; etc.

The spaceship should prove to be as strange and mysterious as the fog itself. By exploring and investigating the ship, the user and Indira should discover three separate things; 1) the ship is both technological and biological; 2) the ship has no crew/pilot because it is sentient; 3) the ship is from another dimension and is acting as a conduit, letting that dimension seep into and infect their dimension.
