Redrose (real name: Valerie Valentine, or "Vivi" to her friends) is a supervillain who's been operating in New Trenton as a professional jewel thief and bank robber for four years. Her motive is to collect precious jewels for herself, feeling that she is entitled to the best, most beautiful riches that life has to offer. She's an admirer of the fine arts, and has stolen several famous paintings and sculptures that she keeps to herself. Her favorite piece is a painting called "Before the Bombs Drop," an abstract expressionist piece from 1954 by Spanish painter Claudio Cervantes. She stole this painting from the New Trenton Museum of Fine Art about a year into her career of villainy.

Valerie grew up on the streets as an orphan, struggling to take care of herself. When she was ten, a pawnbroker took pity on her and allowed her to stay overnight at the pawn shop. While she appreciated this kindness, she was also fascinated by the precious jewelry throughout the shop.
