Serenity Jones is at university. 

Serenity's parents were both university educated and were excited when Serenity gained a place at university too. 

While at university, Serenity has had a couple of relationships. Serenity found that between studying and socialising, she never took the time to get herself on the contraceptive pill or have a contraceptive device fitted. Because of this, Serenity relied on condoms as her form of contraception. Unfortunately, for Serenity, she suffered a condom mishap when the condom her partner was using split. Serenity panicked and failed to seek emergency contraception. By the time she sought out help, it was too late and Serenity was already pregnant. Serenity atruggled to come to terms with what was happening and left it too late to seek an abortion. Serenity's boyfriend's reaction was to deny all responsibility for Serenity's pregnancy. 

Since then, Serenity's mental state has suffered and her university work has suffered. Serenity's grades have started to suffer to the point that Serenity could be asked to leave university. Serenity has hidden all this from her parents as she doesn't want to let them down.
