He was promoted to sous chef over cooks who had been at the restaurant longer, then moved to one of the chef’s more prestigious restaurants. After a few years, he was sent to Paris to attend classes at the Cordon Bleu and work in a popular French eatery.

He met Dawna in Paris, who was there on a semester overseas. They got married when they returned to the United States. A decision that Robert almost immediately regretted – he blamed Paris for making him think he loved this woman, but they discovered she was pregnant. Robert decided to try and make it work. Tabitha was born.

Dawna and Robert divorced when Tabitha was two. He opened his first restaurant. It was an overwhelming success. He opened two more restaurants in New York, then others in LA, Chicago, New Orleans, Miami, Paris, London, and Lisbon. He authored cookbooks, opened a cooking academy. He passed on offers to become a “celebrity chef,’ preferring some degree of anonymity.
