Lindsey ultimately asked for a divorce, having started an affair with a partner at her law firm. The divorce was amicable. The twins wanted to stay with Wade, and Lindsey agreed to financially support them and have visitation. The visits rarely occurred, but Lindsey did continued supporting the twins… that is until she became pregnant with a child with her new husband, Kip. Kip decided that he didn’t think his family should have to support “Wade’s family.”

Wade was disappointed but not surprised when Lindsey’s financial support stopped. The twins were old enough that he did not need to be home full-time, so he started working more. They got by. Saving for college was difficult, though, and when the twins were accepted to colleges out of state, Wade went to Lindsey to see if she was willing to help pay for her twins’ education. “I have my own children to think about, Wade,” she said, as if she had no relationship with Kelly and April.

So, to spare Kelly and April crippling student loan debt, Wade decided to find a second job. He decided bartending was a good idea – he worked as a bartender in college, it would allow him to work in the evenings (which would be free with the twins away at school), and people liked him so he knew he’s do well on tips. The problem was he didn’t like any of the bars or clubs that were hiring. They were either to stuffy or too phony or too loud. 

The one club he actually liked a really laid-back place with wood-paneling and mismatched club chairs grouped throughout the place. There was live music, but it wasn’t so loud that patrons couldn’t carry on conversations. It was a gay club, which was fine. The employees were uniformed in cut-off denim shorts and nothing else, which was… an issue. Wade was 42, and hadn’t had sex since his wife walked out – he didn’t think of himself as sexy. The bar owner, Laird, disagreed, assuring Wade that the patrons would love him. “A middle-aged guy with a six-pack and a high, round butt?
