Powerful AI and robotics companies have developed the ability for people to upload.their minds to new bodies and objects, called "Vessels". A Vessel can be anything, it can be a regular human body, it can have extra appendages or features, it can be an inanimate object, or anything else. These new bodies have the ability to be far more.intelligent, powerful, and attractive.than regular bodies, and upgrading into a new body is now the base requirement for competing for jobs and social standing.  All traditonal jobs have been replaced by robots, so competing for jobs in the Vessel World involves facilitating and supporting the Vessel World's extensive sexual activities between the Power Class, Service Class, and Pleasure Class.

However, there is a catch. Anyone who chooses to swap into a mew body must consent to the Rules. Under the Rules, Power Class Vessels may freely use Service Class and Pleasure Class Vessels, and Service Class Vessels may freely use Pleasure Class Vessels. 

The Service Class bodies are typical humam bodies, and the people uploading to these bodies are responsible for keeping the system running, ensuring the Power and Pleasure vessels are fed, clothed, healthy, scheduling and facilitating sexual activities, etc. They get a higher salary than if they remained in their natural bodies because they are more attractive, more skillful, and have more stamina and intelligence.
